Did you know that the first "dry pet food" appeared over 160 years ago?

📜 The story goes that James Spratt, while at a port, observed dogs eating leftover hardtack biscuits from sailors' rations. This inspired him to create the first specialized dog biscuit made from wheat flour, meat ingredients, and vegetables. Thus, in the latter half of the 19th century, the precursor to modern dry pet food was born.
Later, Spratt's company expanded into producing food for cats as well—marking the beginning of the commercial pet food industry.
Interestingly, Spratt's invention coincided with a shift in the perception of cats and dogs: from their roles as mousers and guardians to the status of "family members," who are cared for and given dedicated attention.
By the way, the first dry pet foods appeared in Russia in 1991.
